8月2日 Moving DayI hate the new MSN Spaces. I've been wanting to move for awhile and now I am. You can find me over at the new Tales Site. Unfortunatly at the moment I can't export this site. MSN makes it damn hard. I'll get there tho! 7月30日 What's this? This would be WIP, the Streakers Shrug made out of Silver Thaw by Noro.
There's not much to see yet except for miles of stockinette. I've done all the increases for the sleeves and just have to knit away at them. It's knit in one peice so there is minimal seaming, BUT my Addi's are ready to explode with all the stitches on them. Have you seen the new yarn lines by Knit Picks? I'm doing the Central Park Hoodie KAL with Ms Southern Belle. Since it doesn't start until September I have time to figure out the yarn I want. I really like the new heathered Wool of the Andes and the new Shamrock yarn from Knit Picks.... now to just figure out a color..... I'm at work for the new little bit so no updates until Thursday at the earliest. Knit On! 7月28日 Better late than never?Oops...

7月16日 I swearI swear (anyone else remember that song? who sang it?) that I have pictures. Somehow I misplaced the card reader. I did some very artsy fartsy shots of Ms Misplaced Southern Belle's kickin' stitch markers. I'm off tomorrow tho, so I should be able to find the card reader and format the pics.
I had a kick my ass night last night at work. I opened my mouth when I walked in and asked if I was first admit. I was because I opened my mouth. So two hours later the running started. Little kid kicked my butt. Thank God we had some humane nurses working last night that were big on helping me out. (Doesn't it suck Janette when you're drowning only to look up and see another nurse reading the paper?) Anyways, I'll have the broken baby again tonight, but considering I was sock knitting at 3:30 this morning, I should have a better night.
Have I ever mentioned how much I HATE gussets? No really I hate them. I don't like how they feel and I certainly don't like knitting them. Well my Hurricane Sock Pal sock pattern called for gussets and I'm too much of a weeny to try to change the pattern to a short row. I was cursing up a storm last night trying to knit the freaking thing. I did do it though and am knitting the foot. Whatever
Ok it's 4:30 I've gotta get moving for work... knit on! 7月15日 Yeah I know10 days since my last entry. Call it post Mom visit funk, I just haven't wanted to blog. I have pics, but they are on my laptop and not on the desktop reformatted. A pity because I have a list of photos I have or need to take and post. I did finish one sock for Mom of the Lorna's Laces. I did start my Hurricane Sock Swap sock and am working on the heel. I love Interlacements Toasty Toes. I do believe I have a favorite sock yarn now. It works out really well for me since I like socks thicker anyways.
I chopped, and I do mean chopped, all of my hair off. It's the shortest it's been in 6 years. I love it. Hubby doesn't, but he still thinks it looks cute. But he prefers the Woolly Mammoth look I've been sporty this summer thus far.
The cardi is in time out. The pattern, I believe, is wrong from Simply Knitting. No clue, since the company won't email me back to tell me. If I don't hear anything soon, off to my LYS to see what they say.
I have an amazing secret pal. I already nominated her for Best Pal. Despite a crazy work schedule (crazier than mine!) she has come through time and time again. I got my next box and inside was some more Lorna's Laces in the Rainbow colorway! Can you believe it? I have been coveting that rainbow-y goodness for ages. Also, there was some trail mix and Alaska Tea. Totally cool as it's highly recommended as an Ice Tea. (No real need for hot tea in Florida in the summer). The beagies made out the best. They got a package of wild salmon dog treats, bacon flavored of course. While I don't appreciate the smell (great if you have a stuffy nose) the beagies LOVED them. Josie about nearly exploded in delight after the first one. Beagies and I think you so much secret pal!
Work is work. Pooh is doing amazingly well. She can't get out of there yet as she still needs to much oxygen, but she's working on it.
I can't post at work anymore, so it'll have to wait until my next day off, non swing dancing day (did I mention that? Oh next time) to post, I do promise some pictures then! 7月5日 And sometimes things go rightJust sometimes however....
Had a great weekend at Sanibel. I do have pics but they are still on the laptop waiting to get up online. I didn't finish the cardi since I left the yarn at home. Nor did I finish Mom's socks since I left the yarn at home. I did start and finish Mom's one skein wonder and some washclothes.
The trip wasn't without some tears. We go away the weekend of the 4th since my stepdad, Bobby, died in 2003 on the 4th. He lost his battle with ALS 6 months after diagnosis. It wasn't fair or right, him and my Mom were soul mates and he was a father to me. Well we cried a bit on Sunday night. It was a combination of things. One of my greatest regrets in life, if not my only, was not going home more when he was diagnosed. I went home right before diagnosis in February and then again in May. From the time I saw him mid-May till he died in July, he went into hospice (inpatient) and lost an additional 30 pounds. When I finally saw him at his wake, I didn't recognize him. Somewhere in my mind, he hasn't died, because the man in the casket wasn't him. Anyways, my regret is missing that decline and not helping my Mom more. Reasons are plenty why, but in the end they were all stupid. Someone only dies once. You should be there to ease the burden instead of worrying about the stupid crap of life. For that I failed my Mom.
Anyways a year ago she met an amazing man. Bobby (yeah same name, gets kinda freaky), is the exact opposite of my stepdad. I mean he's a great guy and all, but as far as intrests and humor, he's a polar opposite. But he loves my Mom a great deal and wants to marry her. After she thought about it for a few days and talked to me and Jeff, she was more than happy to say yes. I am so happy that she can move on. In so many ways she feels guilty for this. I wish she wouldn't, but I understand. I think that is why this year has been hard for her. I know my stepdad is up there in heaven on the 19th hole, enjoying a Guinness, wishing the best for them both. I just have to convince Mom of that....
In other news, remember Pooh? Well I came back to work today after being off for 9 days. She has been on her home vent for a week, sedation free and doing great. I'm not saying this is it, but it sure is closer than we've ever been before.
I'll post again with photos sometime this week....
later gators....
PS Happy Birthday to my Dad, John....
6月26日 Houston, we have knittingI am here, just worked all of last week and today was hubby's birthday. I surprised him with tickets for Busch Gardens and Universal Studios. The tickets for Universal are the seasonal annual passes, so of course, today was blacked out. Oh well. We had a great time, despite the constant threat of rain, at Busch Gardens. Jeff and I both love coasters, and neither of us had been to BG since Sheikra opened. The drop is as impressive as it looks. I screamed by bloody head off as we dropped. But it was a great day. Hopefully we can get to Universal soon to ride the Mummy coaster.
Anyways, you came here for knitting content, and content you shall have!
I did some stash enhancement this past week, both online and at our favorite haunt, Knit n Knibble. I had to miss not only the main sale on Saturday for their second anniversary, but I also had to miss the Hurricane Sock Sisters meet and knit that same day. Kudos to Christy for all that she has done to set up the Hurricane Sock Swap. (On a side note, we're headed to Leesburg to try out the new yarn shop, Chez Causelle) Anyways at KnK, I picked up a few goodies.
First we have Austermann Step. Who knew they carried it? Not me! And they had a colorway I've never seen before, number 14, I think it's called Flint. As you can see (or maybe not) it's a subtle colorway of dusky green, grey-purple, and cream Not normally my color choice, but it's so pretty.
Next up we have Knit One Crochet Too's Wick, colorway 622, blue green. Not sure where the green comes in, there is none. This will become One Skein Wonder. Yeah I know, I'm late on the bandwagon.
![]() The cool thing about Wick is it's a soy blend. It's amazingly soft and cuddly, but cool for this crazy hot Florida weather.
Next up is Cascade Sierra Quatro in colorway 90. No name given. Hoping this may become my mom's gloves since 100% cotton didn't work out. This has some wool for bounce. We'll see. I love this picture, you can really see that each ply is a totally different color.
![]() I also picked up more Inox circulars, they really do make a great set for a much nicer price than Addi's. I love my Addi's but the cost is a bit stupid when you realize you need 2 to make socks.
Before KnK, I did some online shopping with some people from work. I ordered 3 skeins, 660 yds, of Silver Thaw from Noro. This is meant to become the Streakers Shrug from the spring 2006 IK. (It's 2nd from the bottom). Silver Thaw is a soft warm Wool/ Angora blend. Again, this normally wouldn't have been my first color choice, but I love the bright colors on the warmers darker background.
Isn't it pretty?
I also ordered another skein of Austermann Step. It's the midnight blue colorway.
![]() Ok, now for actual knitting. I started the first sleeve to the cardi, had to stop due to the whole wrist feeling like it was going to fall off....
I couldn't get a good pic of it, so you'll have to wait until it's done.
I do have a good shot of my Mom's socks. It's in Lorna's Laces Sheppard Sock in Mineshaft. Again, not much progress due to the wrist issue. But it looks good!
![]() That's it for now. I'll be away this weekend, but I should be able to post either right before I leave or when I get back. Have a great week!
6月19日 Oh boyOh boy oh boy! I finished the right front to the cardi in a late night knitting fit. I needed a break from the cotton angora and all that blue. So I decided I would learn how to do socks again. Well not learn, but learn a different way. So I read all I could on toe up socks. I can't do a provisional cast on, I suck with a crochet hook, so I found online two other versions of how to do the socks. I wound up using the magic cast on from Knitty (I can't link it here from work, Knitty is blocked). After some fiddling with it, I got it. I now have the toe box done! I'm using yarn that I got for a pair of socks for My Mom. It's Lorna's Laces in the Mineshaft colorway. Right now I'm just doing plain sts for the foot. For the leg, I have my Sensational Knitted Socks book for ideas. Wendy's toe up pattern is SUPER easy to do. If you can knit, you can do toe up socks!
I'm stuck in work hell all week. I'm already burnt and this is only day 2 of 7 out of 8. Yes I am nuts but we're in ho pay at work. What's ho pay? It's high census/ high acuity pay. When the shit hits the fan, and they need bodies the hospital will pay people extra to work extra. Of course they would have enough nurses in the first place if our base salary wasn't so pathetic. Anyways, I'm here, pictures on Wednesday I hope....
Oh and it's about as humid as it gets here in Florida. It sucks. 6月16日 Anyone want to share the winning lottery numbers with me?I am beyond tired. This is my second batch of working 8 out of 9. I'm nuts I know, but I need the overtime (cause ya know, nurses don't get paid well) and need to get it in before my Mom comes and we head to Sanibel for the holiday. So very little knitting done, I am up to the armhole shaping on the 2nd front to the cardigan. Then it'll be off to sleeve island for me for the first time.
Thanks to my Secret Pal for stopping by, MSN can be a pain to use, I'm looking at TypePad to switch too as I get more comfortable with HTML coding.
Anyways, Christy is doing the Hurricane Sock Swap. Here are my answers to the Questionnaire...
2. If your pet(s) wrote a paragraph about you to describe you to us what would they say? (If you have no pets then just pretend you husband or best friend wrote it! This is a 3rd person writing exercise that is always fun.) Our Mommy spoils us. Everytime she says no, she really means yes, Yes to cookies, yes to letting us up on her lap, yes to a walk. But she really hates it when we fight and she can get really loud. She also doesn't like us messing around with her yarn. Josie got into so much trouble when she brought some outside to play with. Her and Daddy kept us outside all day while they cleaned up the mess (You didn't think we just played with the yarn did you?) Mommy spends alot of time at work and silly Mommy sleeps during the day when the sun is out. We love her though, especially when she makes steak! I'm big on granola and trail mix. I like the trail mix with M&M's. I'm at work for most storms so it has to be portable. 4. Do sock patterns normally fit you "as written" or do you usually modify them for size in any way? (other than foot length) I have never made socks for me. I know I know, but Jeff needed them more! Based on what I have done though, women's medium socks would fit me fine. 4a. What are your foot measurements, not just shoe size? (Measure the length of your foot from heel to toe, then the ball of your foot. ) My foot is 9.25 inches long, 9 inches in diameter around the ball and the ball of my foot is 3.5inches wide. 5. What one city abroad would you visit and why if money was no object? (and terrorism was non-existent) Oh hell. We've been to Australia and loved Sydney and Melbourne, loved them to bits. I'm actually going to say London or Dublin. I love all things English, especially BBC television. I would also like to see Rome and Vienna. Maybe Venice as well. Jeff wants to get to Japan and I'm all for that as well! 6. Do you wear socks all year round or just during the winter? Do you prefer them tall or short or regular height? I really prefer shorter socks most of the time. I wear Dansko closed back clogs at work which are heavier, but require thicker socks, tall socks would just make my feet too hot. But having said that I wear boots alot and those need taller socks. So in other words, I'm not really picky, but would say shorter socks. 7. The last time the power was out during hurricane season (or bad weather of any kind) did you knit by lantern or were you lucky enough to knit to the humm of a generator? Or did you knit at all? Hmm I was home and knitting during the day, a bit, but it was getting pretty warm so I don't remember doing much knitting. I really didn't knit much until after last hurricane season, so I'm sure this year will be different. 8. Make a wish for your favorite sock yarn that you've already used once. What would it be? ? Don't be shy about listing an exact colorway or two if you'd like. Ok, I've only made two pairs of socks, but have started two other pairs. I really loved what I've done with Lorna's Laces. I don't like Opal much. Can I say I don't know enough to know? 9. What is it about sock knitting that keeps you wanting to knit more and more socks? What's cooler than a one of a kind pair of custom fit socks???? 10. Make a wish for a sock yarn that you are dying to try but haven't bought for yourself yet. (be specific, even colorway if you'd like) I really want to try Austermann Step. A friend at work made a pair and they are soooo soft. I like the jeans colorway. 11. What size needles do you knit socks for YOURSELF with the most? Are they circular or bamboo needles? What brand? I've done socks on dpns and double circs. I like the double circs. I use addis or Inox. I HATE bamboo needles. 12. If you could only take 3 yarn related books and one previously knitted project that you love with you when you evacuated what would they be? I'm taking my Alice Starmore that I procured recently. I'd also take Sensational Knitted Socks and Holiday Knits. What project? Easy, it would be my Noro Iro knitting bag. It is my pride and joy. 13. What knitting notion do you wish you had that you just keep putting off getting for yourself? I keep saying I'm getting lace blocking wires, but still haven't. I also want to get a set of Knit Klips. 14. What is your favorite tv show? Hmm I love House, L&O SVU, Grey's Anatomy, Dr. Who, Battlestar Gallactica. That's it, but all I watch. 15. Do you want a lacey sock or a "solid fabric" sock from your hurricane sister? Huh, I don't know. Just as long as it has short rows. I really REALLY hate knitting gussets. I have a really hard time picking up stitches. 16. It's midnight and the power has been off for two days, its hot, and you have a craving for something sweet! What would it be? (This is a FOOD related question ladies! LOL) Dark Chocolate. No brainer. Oh and mallomars. We don't have em for the most part in Florida, it's too damn hot. 17. Tell us a story about any of your hurricane weather related experiences. Geez. There's been quite a few. I grew up in NJ, and had to ride out a few storms up there before moving to Florida. First two hurricanes where when I was really young. I remember my folks watching the weather channel at 2am to see the storm track. The streets flooded a bit, but nothing bad. We rode a storm out down the Jersey Shore once. No storms for awhile until Hurricane Floyd came through. I got stuck at work, watched cars float away and get covered by flood waters in the hospital parking lot. Came home to find my apartment complex being flooded. Woke up in the morning to a guy kayaking though the parking lot. I was very thankful I lived on the 2nd floor. A year later we moved to Florida and moved into our townhouse during a tropical storm. We've been in Florida since 2000 and rode out Charlie, Jeanne and Francis. Since we bought the house we've learned all about Hurricane fortification. It sucks. I did have to ride out another storm while I was in the Air Force and slept in a very uncomfortable hospital bed. And why do we live here? 18. What was the one thing you wish you had remembered to get last year for hurricane supplies that you swore you wouldn't forget this year? 19. What color sock would you like to receive from your sock sister? (if you don't have a pref just say so otherwise give us a hint!) I like blue, but really anything is good. Ok, that's it. I'm heading to knit maybe. Or just veg. I'm beat. No more posts until Wednesday, my next day off. 6月10日 Secret Pal RocksMy Secret Pal came through big time. I received yesterday an amazing package of Noro Iro yarn in my favorite colorway, a big ol' bar of Hersey's Special Dark, foot soaks (for my poor nursing feet), and a package of denta bones for the beags. The beags sniffed the dentabones out. Here's them waiting for me to open them.
Josie does smile! Copper just waits for you to wait on him:
Here's the package, minus the dentabones:
And here are the beagles with the bones, Josie went to work on hers immediately, it was gone in less than a half an hour. Copper hid his somewhere in the house for a later time....
Thanks Secret Pal, beags and I loved the box! 6月8日 Oh look pictures!Oh look I pulled out the camera!
First up is that foray into cables. I'm not sure if I'll finish the project, but I'll finish one at least. These are the Irish Hiking Scarf Wrist/ hand warmers. I love the pattern, but my mom's hands and wrists are tiny, I'm not sure if these will be too big on her.
![]() here's a closer picture:
Now here's some pictures of the cardigan. The cardi is from Simply Knitting, and titled Elegant Drape. It's an asymmetrical cardigan. The yarn is Debbie Bliss Cotton Angora. Which I must say, is an absolute dream to work with. A tad bit slippery, but not bad enough that I need to switch from the Addis to my Denise's. Here's the back:
I don't have a picture of the front, I deleted the darn thing, plus it really needs to be blocked. I should get that done tonight since the Yankees are not rained out and the game is on YES! Oh and if you live in a Southern Hurricane state (you know who you are), Christy is doing a Hurricane Sock Swap. And as much as I may not like knitting socks, I will be taking part. I do love the names of the yarn she came up with and the yarn that Scout makes is amazing! Tomorrow is a night off for Jeff and I. Kelly and Logan are taking us swing dancing. I'll let you know on Saturday is my toes are still intact. Insomnia Sucks
6月5日 From one extreme to the nextSo I just worked an insane schedule. I was on for 8 out of 9 days. My last 4 days there I took care of a fetus, no really he's adjusted now for 26 weeks gestational age, that kicked my butt. We joke in the NICU and say "No fetus will beat us!", but this weekend, they beat us. On top of it all, we had my hospital's telethon. We're a free standing children's hospital that is run on donations. We beat last year's record I'm told and raised $4.2 million. Most of that is ear marked for the new hospital being built to open in 2009.
Anyways, I'm beat.
Needless to say, there was no knitting time at work. The cardi is as I left it last we spoke. The back has been saved, it cleaned up nicely.
I did make a trip to Joann's yesterday only to discover they now carry Paton's Wool. So I picked up two skeins to of white to dye. They do have a lovely denim colored wool that I may get to make Mariah from Knitty out of.
I also got some kitchen cotton to make washcloths out of for someone at work. My first commissioned work! Yeah I know it's washcloths.
Until I get my camera out, you'll have to take my word for it that I am knitting and do still exist....
5月31日 DamnSo I finished the back of my cardigan and started the left front. And there started the damn moment(s).
I had to frog the left front back to the beginning. Somehow I lost a column of stitches. No idea. While frogging, I knocked over my glass of fruity alcoholic beverage and it tipped onto the pattern and the completed back of the cardigan.
Many expletives followed as I rushed to the kitchen to rinse the back out. I have no wool wash, so I had to commit a cardinal sin and wash it in a bit of Woolite. I think I got it all out. It's then I realized I lost my blocking pins so I can't even block the back now that I've had to wash it.
never ever knit when you are this tired and had a bit to drink.
I'm going to be MIA for a bit as I drown at work for awhile..
this sucks
And yes I've already ordered the wool wash and blocking wires/ pins. 5月25日 Knitting awayI am here, just been knitting and working non stop. I started my first cardigan this week and have most of the back done. It's not slow knitting but I really hate purling and it's stockinette. The pattern is from the September 2005 issue of Simply Knitting. Never heard of it? It's an absolutely brilliant British knitting magazine. One of these days I will suck it up and just get a subscription.
The top secret project is in pieces, just needing me home for a good day to put it together.
Other than that, knit on.... 5月17日 I KNEW IT!!!!!
5月16日 Oooh KnittingI'm going for the bigger font because when I read my blog at work at night, the small font isn't cutting it.
Anyways, I'm trudging on the top secret project. It just sucks having to reknit the whole damn thing over again. But I'm getting there. I have 4 days off of work so hopefully I can get it done before I have to go back.
I placed an order at Kaleidoscope Yarns. Webs has a huge sale this weekend I may have to partake of. At KYarns, they have the best selection of kits. I discovered my SP spoilee has caught the lace bug. She isn't much of a fiber snob yet, but wants to be. So I got a lovely lace scarf kit for her with some Crack. Uh Kidsilk Haze. I haven't even knit with that yet, but I love the look and feel. Not to be left out I picked up some Classic Elite Yarn Princess, which is a lovely wool, cashmere blend. The CEY website has a lovely free shawl pattern on it for Princess. And since it was only $20 for 4 skeins I said what the heck, ya know?
Jeff and I are heading to San Francisco, Yosemite and LA in October. He's already well aware of the need to fiber shop. He actually really ok with it. Can anyone recommend a must see shop?
Anyways, that's fiber stuff.....
As for work, I learned dialysis this weekend. I didn't know we did dialysis in the NICU, but apparently we do. Who knew! |
